About Us

The Principal Investigator, Janice Carruthers, is Professor of French Linguistics at Queen's University, Belfast.

Her primary research interest is in the linguistic structure of oral narrative, particularly in tense, aspect, temporal and spatial framing, negation, detachment, inversion, parataxis/hypotaxis, and speech and thought presentation. She is also interested in corpus linguistics (notably in digital annotation using the Text Encoding Initiative), in the linguistic features of different types of spoken language, and, more broadly, in language variation and change.
